Work permits ensure that high-risk activities are properly planned, authorized, and controlled.

Permit Types

Hot Work Permit

For welding, cutting, grinding, or any spark-producing activity:

• Fire watch requirements
• Extinguisher locations
• Combustible material clearance
• Cool-down monitoring period

Confined Space Entry

For tanks, vaults, pits, or enclosed areas:

• Atmospheric testing results
• Rescue plan
• Attendant assignment
• Communication procedures

Excavation Permit

For trenching and digging:

• Utility locate confirmation
• Shoring requirements
• Access/egress provisions
• Spoil pile management

Working at Heights

For scaffolding, ladders, or elevated work:

• Fall protection plan
• Equipment inspection
• Rescue procedures
• Weather restrictions

Electrical Work

For work on or near electrical systems:

• Lockout/tagout procedures
• Voltage verification
• PPE requirements
• Clearance boundaries

Creating a Permit

• Go to Permits > New Permit
• Select the permit type
• Fill in required fields:

- Work description

- Location on site

- Start and end date/time

- Workers involved

- Safety precautions

• Attach any supporting documents
• Submit for approval

Approval Workflow

• Submitted — Creator submits permit
• Pending Review — Superintendent receives notification
• Approved / Rejected — Decision with comments
• Active — Work can begin
• Expired — Past end date, work must stop

Permit Expiry

• Permits automatically expire at their end date/time
• 24-hour warning notification sent to all parties
• Expired permits require a new submission to continue work
• Extension requests can be submitted before expiry

Digital Acknowledgment

Workers scan the permit's QR code to acknowledge:

• They've read the permit conditions
• They understand the safety requirements
• They agree to follow the procedures

This creates a digital record of who acknowledged the permit.
